06/02/2023: Meeting between the President of Tajikistan and the Vice-President of the Islamic Development Bank within the framework of strengthening economic cooperation – Alexandre Brière.

On 6 February, in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, a meeting took place between the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, and the Vice-President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Mansur Muhtar. According to the press service of the Tajik Foreign Ministry, during the discussions there was talk of reassessing new prospects for cooperation between Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank. This meeting takes place in a context of medium-term uncertainties linked to the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in the Central Asian region. According to the Tajik media Asiaplustj.info, the parties discussed the implementation of investment projects concerning priority socio-economic sectors of Tajikistan, including education, health, energy, transport, as well as irrigation. In this regard, special attention has been paid to the financing of large-scale projects in road construction, installation of energy infrastructure, restoration of the irrigation system and export of agricultural products. The IDB is a multilateral development bank that works to improve people’s quality of life by promoting social and economic development in developing countries, particularly in Muslim states. As reported by the press service of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, at the end of the meeting, President Rahmon expressed his satisfaction with the high level of cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank and stressed the importance of the contribution of the financial organisation in the economic and commercial growth of the country.

07/02/2023 : Lauching of an Indian loan for the new oil refinery in Mongolia – Julie Eifler—Bolander.

On 7 February, the project of construction of a new oil refinery in Mongolia was revived thanks to a loan of the Indian Government.
