China, the world’s second largest economy, is known as the world’s biggest polluter, but less so for its ecological efforts.
Despite emitting 11.4 billion tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere every year – 54% of the world’s annual oil consumption – China is a pioneer in the photovoltaic sector. Indeed, the country has doubled its capacity in this field over the last five years. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), China accounts for 75% to 97% of the production of each stage in the construction of photovoltaic panels worldwide.
