« Three years on… (the attack on Samuel Paty) »these words resonate today in the wake of the tragic event that took place on Friday 13 October at the Lycée Gambetta in Arras. The emotional impact and consternation of this terrorist attack and its symbol are gradually giving way to political and media reactions, as well as discussions about the French Chechen community. Clearly, many thoughts will be shared in the days to come. The aim of this article is not to react to today’s attack, but rather to provide some perspectives for understanding the Chechen question in France. These reminders are essential to fuel the – inevitable – debate on the situation of Chechens in France.
