On 15th December, an article published in the French Newspaper Le Monde examined the Russian presence in Africa. Since the rebellion of the Wagner paramilitary group, and the death of his leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, a revision of the Russian mercenaries’ organisation in Sahel and the Central African Republic was becoming necessary. Therefore, these forces should soon be regrouped under the new name Africa Corps, under the influence of the Russian Ministry of Defence; this label is an explicit reference to the Deutsches Afrikakorps, the famous expeditionary corps from Nazi Germany, which was deployed in North Africa between 1941 and 1943.
