On 12th January, the Russian Ministry of Foreign affairs commented upon the results of the parliamentary election in Bangladesh, which took place the previous week. Russia has congratulated the re-election of Sheikh Hasina, the country’s Prime Minister since 2009. A large part of the Bangladeshi opposition boycotted the polling, as they accused the Awami League (the party currently in power) of irregularities in the vote’s organisation. However, according to Russian observers, those elections were held without disruption. Moscow appears more than willing to maintain good relations with Dhaka; the deliveries of Russian uranium to Bangladesh, in October 2023, are proof of this.
