In September 2023, following the State of the European Union address by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the Commission launched an anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles imported into Europe. The investigation concerns battery electric cars (BEVs) that are allegedly benefiting from Chinese state subsidies.
