On 8th December, the spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry, Maria Zakharova, congratulated Armenia and Azerbaijan in a press release, who have recently announced that they were working together towards the preparation of a peace treaty. Russia was very invested in the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and has welcomed with delight this information. In order to reach an agreement, Armenia has accepted to withdraw its application to host the COP29 meetings, in 2024, a position that will thus be occupied by Azerbaijan. The Kremlin has stated that it was ready to assist both countries in their efforts to achieve peace.
