A news item has deeply shaken Chechen society over the past week. An imam was coldly murdered in the presence of his young child. The alleged perpetrator broadcast a video justifying his crime in the name of a “witch-hunt“. This event, although supposedly isolated, sparked a number of questions facing Chechen society: the policy of repression of occultism in Chechnya, the issue of psychiatry, the risks of vendetta, and the phenomenon of vigilantism in the North Caucasus.
