Albania: Brief Visit of Erdogan to Tirana as the Country Receives the First Migrants Sent by Italy

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated the Namazgja Mosque in Tirana, the largest in the Balkans, described as a “gift from the Turkish people to their Albanian brothers and sisters.” This visit also provided an opportunity to strengthen military cooperation between the two countries, with Erdogan pledging the delivery of kamikaze drones to Albania.

At present, no further details have been revealed regarding discussions on international issues, although the Turkish presidency mentioned an “exchange of views on current regional and global issues, particularly the situation in Gaza, the occupied Palestinian territories, Israeli attacks in Lebanon, and developments in the Balkans.” On these matters, Edi Rama’s Albania remains aligned with the European Union, calling for a two-state solution while supporting Israel in its fight against Hamas. In his speech at the UN on September 27, the Albanian Prime Minister cautiously called for an end to the violence, while strongly condemning the “totalitarian regime in Tehran,” which he accused of orchestrating a large-scale cyber-attack against Albania.
