On January 20, Donald Trump celebrated his grand return to the White House. While his inauguration was already generating considerable reactions, it was on January 21 that the new Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, organized a quadrilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of Australia, Japan, and India. This first act of foreign policy provides insight into the new U.S. administration’s directions for this term and places these partners at the heart of American geopolitical strategy.

Beyond the strong signal sent by this meeting, its main objective was to prepare for the upcoming QUAD summit, scheduled for September in India. This summit aims to determine the future of the Indo-Pacific region in response to China’s growing influence. This initiative marks a significant turning point in U.S. foreign policy and highlights the priority given to this region by the new administration.
