April was an eventful month in the Sino-US relationship. First of all, on the political and security side, with the leak of secret American defence documents referring to Chinese ballistic tests, and the penetration of American military vessels near the Spratly Islands, which Beijing harshly denounced. The Chinese government also denounced the rapprochement between Washington and Seoul resulting from the dispatch of a US nuclear submarine to South Korea.
