Territorial conflicts in Central Asia – Update as of 28/03/2025.
Border Agreement between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan was signed
1 – The Agreement is signed
On March 13, on the occasion of an official visit, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, and the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, signed the agreement on the delimitation of their common border. After lengthy negotiations since December 2002 and countless episodes of conflict since the independence of the Central Asian republics, this agreement seals the resolution of the last major territorial conflict in the region. It will also enhance regional cooperation, notably on issues such as access to water and the single visa project for the five Central Asian republics. Three texts will be submitted to the national parliaments of the two countries to ratify the agreement. The presidents of the two parties will then sign the final agreement, scheduled for March 31.
