On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, a tripartite meeting took place on 18 February between US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian. The US representative spoke in his opening speech of a “truly historic opportunity to secure lasting peace after more than 30 years of conflict” while the US State Department reported “significant progress made by both parties in recent months towards a peace agreement“, visibly turning a blind eye to the impasse in which the process currently finds itself and which appears more clearly in the separate statements of the two South Caucasian leaders, Nikol Pashinian declaring both
