On the 13th of May, the Deputy Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdullah al-Lafi, and the country’s Minister of Foreign affairs, Taher al-Baour, met with Sergueï Lavrov in Moscow. The meeting focused on stabilisation efforts in Libya, a nation that still suffers from the consequences of the bloody civil war, which lasted from 2011 to 2020; thus, the Russian Minister insisted on the necessity to resume the works of the Russian-Libyan Intergovernmental Commission, but also on the UN role in the region. Officially, the civil war ended with a permanent ceasefire, but the authority of the Government of National Unit, despite its official recognition by the United Nations, is not respected by all Libyan factions.
