On the 11th of February, Russia celebrated the 75th anniversary of its relations with Vietnam, underlining the strong and historic ties uniting the two nations. The Soviet Union was one of the first two countries to ever recognise Vietnam’s independence (at the same time as the People’s Republic of China), in 1950, even before the First Indochina War ended. Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Minister of Foreign affairs, commemorated this relation by reminding the close cooperation between the two countries, notably from a scientific and economic point of view. Indeed, 2025 marks the tenth anniversary of the free trade agreement between Hanoi and the Eurasian Economic Union.
