Over the summer, the Russian diplomacy sought to strengthen its relationship with the Asian Powers. On the 26th of July, 2024, Sergey Lavrov thus took part in the Russia-ASEAN ministerial meeting, in Laos. This meeting, which brought together the Foreign Affairs’ Ministers of the ASEAN’s ten member-states, plays a very important role in the representation of Moscow’s interests. Effectively, the Kremlin and its main ally, China, would like to hold a better influence on ASEAN, notably in order to counter the Western influence in the Indo-Pacific.
