General Affairs Council of the European Union issued its opinion on relations with Türkiye in its conclusions on enlargement on December 18, emphasizing the strategic importance of a “partnership” while insisting on the need to uphold “certain values and conditions”. The General Affairs Council of the European Union welcomed the resumption of high-level dialogues in the areas of trade, economy, foreign policy, and regional issues. It also underlined that progress in resolving the Cyprus issue, in line with the United Nations framework, would be essential for deepening cooperation between the European Union and Türkiye.
