On the occasion of “Victory Day,” May 9th, Red Square once again became the stage for a patriotic liturgy carefully orchestrated by the Russian authorities. Draped in martial splendor, punctuated by hymns and the rumble of armored vehicles, the commemoration of the “Great Patriotic War” took on a particular geopolitical resonance this year: 29 leaders chose to travel to Russia and were welcomed personally by Vladimir Putin. Among these heads of state and government was Xi Jinping, whose presence resounded as a powerful signal on the international stage: that of a Sino-Russian axis within the BRICS, not merely reflecting a strategic partnership, but also symbolizing a united front against the liberal West.
