Electoral fraud and international reactions

On November 14, the Coalition for Change published a report detailing significant fraud in the 2024 parliamentary elections. The accusations include discrepancies between exit polls and official results, violations of voting secrecy, and statistical anomalies. Zurab Japaridze called for an international investigation, highlighting the impossibility of an impartial inquiry under the control of Georgian Dream (GD).

On November 16, the Central Election Commission (CEC) confirmed GD’s victory with 54% of the vote, a decision marred by an incident where Davit Kirtadze, a representative of the opposition Unity-UNM, protested by throwing black paint at the CEC president. In Adjara, GD also secured 57% of the vote, winning 13 out of 21 regional council seats.

In response to the controversy, President Salomé Zourabichvili proposed a plan for new elections following a transitional period. She emphasized the risks of political destabilization and filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court, alleging violations of voters’ rights.
