Political evolution and opposition management
As the October 2024 parliamentary elections approach, Georgia’s political scene has been marked by several incidents involving opposition members. Gela Khasaia and Boris Chele Kurua, among others, have had their bank accounts frozen for administrative reasons, reflecting heightened tensions between the government and opposition forces. These actions take place in a climate where the opposition accuses the government of increased repression of dissent.
In this context, on 26 September, the ruling Georgian Dream party unveiled campaign posters in Tbilisi showing the devastation of the war in Ukraine on one side and a “peaceful” Georgia on the other, with the slogan “Say No to War – Choose Peace“.
