The Cairo Water Week 2024, held from October 13 to 17 under the theme “Water and Climate: Building Resilient Communities”, has positioned itself as a key event in the field of hydrodiplomacy in Africa and the Middle East. Under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the event gathered experts, policymakers, and international organizations like the FAO and the European Union to address the challenges of water scarcity in regions impacted by climate change, while promoting innovative solutions.
The Middle East and North Africa are among the most vulnerable regions to the global water crisis, with over 85% of water resources devoted to agriculture, placing significant pressure on limited supplies. The Cairo Water Week emphasized the need for more efficient resource management, encouraging the adoption of modern technologies such as precision irrigation, water recycling, and real-time data utilization. These approaches aim to prevent water-related conflicts while ensuring sustainable development and food security.
