Inaugurated January 1st, the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union takes over from Hungary. Under the slogan “Security, Europe”, Poland is placing defense issues at the forefront, especially because of its proximity to the war in Ukraine. With its national program to devote 4.7% of its GDP to defense by 2025, Warsaw could well be the start of a new dynamic in Europe, particularly following the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States.

With Trump in the White House, a new European Commission and the ongoing war in Ukraine, security in all its possible dimensions will be the main priority of the next rotating EU presidency,” says Polish ambassador Agnieszka Bartol.
