Over the course of the summer, the situation between Ukraine and Russia has evolved in Ukraine’s favour. On 6 August, the Ukrainian armed forces launched an offensive in the Kursk oblast in Russia, on the north-eastern border with Ukraine. This large-scale surprise attack, supported by President V. Zelensky, resulted, after three weeks, in the occupation of around 1,300 square kilometres of invaded territory, raising hopes in Ukraine and, on the other hand, discontent in the Kremlin.
