Alexander Lukashenko in China: A Strengthened Strategic Partnership Between Minsk and Beijing

From June 2 to 4, 2025, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko paid a state visit to China, highlighting the deepening of strategic ties between the two countries. This visit aimed to strengthen their technological and industrial cooperation within the framework of an ongoing diplomatic rapprochement. Since his re-election in January 2025, Alexander Lukashenko has only made two trips abroad: to Russia and to China. This choice reflects Beijing’s growing importance in Belarus’s foreign policy. Sino-Belarusian relations have significantly strengthened in recent years. In 2022, China elevated its relationship with Belarus to the level of an “all-weather partnership,” the highest tier in its diplomatic hierarchy. This status marks an enhanced strategic cooperation across several sectors, particularly industry, technology, and the military.
